About this event: 

PDF/A What is it and why do I want it?  Get an update on the First International Conference for PDF/A held in Europe last year!  You can come learn how PDF/A is being used throughout government and industry, how to lower costs, and how to exchange content.  Stephen Levenson who is the international convener for this standard and Chair of the AIIM Standards Board will discuss this standard and how it fits into other standards under development through AIIM.  This presentation should interest practitioners of records management, CIOs’ and General Counsels of organizations.  

We will also explore:

  • What is PDF/A
  • Why do I want or need it?
  • When does document preservation start?
  • How to keep long term costs under control.
  • How does this fit into and effect ECM program.
About our speaker: 

Stephen Levenson is the IT Specialist for Policy and Planning for the Administrative Office of the US Courts in Washington, DC.  His accomplishments also include:

  • AIIM International, Board of Directors

  • Chair, AIIM Standards Board

  • AIIM Education Advisory Board

  • International Convener ISO PDF/A

  • Board of Directors Federal Information Records Management (FIRM)

Steve started his career in 1972 in a large microfilm conversion of the Land Records of Metro Dade County in Miami.  The last 35 years have involved bringing automation to court records and processes.  His law related experience has been through Municipal, State and Federal Courts.  He is currently assigned to several projects involving the automated collection of court records and their long-term management and preservation.

PARKING: 
The self-park garage is on North Vermont Street, one-half block from our hotel entrance, is operated by Colonial Parking. They do not publish a phone number for that garage, but their main central office number is 202.295.8200. The parking charge is $3.00 flat only after 6PM. If you park at the hotel - the charge is $15 for valet parking - no self parking at the hotel. You can park on the adjacent streets at the meters around the hotel (other than the main Glebe Road - a towing zone from 4 - 6PM) and the parking is free after 6PM.


METRO: 
Ballston Metro Stop. When you come out of the station on Fairfax Drive, Walk through the side street buildings and the marked pathways and it is only one and a half block to the back entrance of the hotel. Inside the hotel, go upstairs to the next level for Board Room and the Banquet Room.


SPECIAL DIET:
 If you have special dietary needs (vegetarian, no salt, etc.) register below AT LEAST 72 HOURS before the event and follow your registration with an email to register@nccaiim.org .  The Subject line of your email MUST read "SPECIAL DIET".  In your email, state your name and the SPECIFIC type of meal you need.  We will do our best to fill your request  and will confirm receipt of your email and the availability of the meal requested.  Please don't assume anything.  If you don't get a confirmation of your email, we did not receive it.


COST:
 
AIIM, ARMA, IAC/ACT Member Rate $35, Non-Member Rate $45.  AIIM Members who are NOT members of the National Capitol Chapter may be asked to show their Membership card/ID at registration to qualify for the member discount.  Dinner guests of a member will qualify for the AIIM Member Rate.  .
